Bakari Academy for Young Scholars is a culturally responsive child development experience that draws upon the cultural knowledge, skills, and values children bring with them from their home and community. We believe that family and community values help shape the foundation of learning, development, and achievement for children.
The word Bakari is a Swahili term that means Promising. We operate under the philosophy that each child is unique and has God-given purpose and potential. We envision a world where Black and Brown children have equitable access and opportunities by which they can learn, develop, thrive, and fulfill their greatest potential.

Our Unique Approach
Guided by an Afrocentric principles combined with the Montessori inspired approach, our program connects traditional subject matter such as literacy, math, science, and social studies with creative and cultural activities.
Both “roots” and “wings” are important if our children are to realize their best selves.
Research confirms that there is a strong positive correlation between a child’s experience during their formidable years and their later success in personal and professional life. Positive affirmations help youth develop positive foundations on which to grow and thrive. Cultural pride messages emphasize the history and accomplishments of African Americans and people of the African Diaspora. Our unique Afrocentric lens empowers young children with a sense of identity, a sense of who they are, and a sense of pride. They see themselves as unique and significant, especially important while their minds are still developing. Our approach to education encourages children to take full advantage of their potential, skills, and talents.
